In order to maximize the benefits of your aromatherapy bath product, you should follow these steps:
- Fill the tub with warm water.
- Add 3 to 8 drops of essential oil and agitate the water to ensure thorough dispersion.
1. You should test your essential oil for allergies prior to bathing in water with it.2. Do not put the essential oil in before pouring the water because some of the precious aroma will evaporate before you get in.

If you are also looking for the additional benefit of moisturizing your skin, use a carrier oil such as almond oil. Mix about 1 teaspoon of carrier oil with 3-8 drops of essential oil and add to your bath water just before getting in.

- But most importantly, many essential oils have a wonderful scent that can calm you down, help you sleep better, and relieve stress.
When used in a warm bath, essential oils are combined with the beneficial effects of warm water vapor and can be absorbed through inhalation as well as through your skin.
Essential Oils for a Relaxing Bath
- While you can add essential oil directly into your bath water, it’s better to first dilute it into a non-scented carrier oil. This also serves to prevent skin irritation and it will help hydrate your skin.
- If you want an invigorating bath, I recommend cool water with 10 drops of rosemary essential oil
- For most other purposes, a warm bath is better suited but don’t make it too hot! You’ll want a comfortable temperature and wait until you are ready to get in the tub before adding your essential oil.
- For a soothing and relaxing bath, I recommend 3 drops of marjoram essential oil mixed into a tablespoon (15 ml) of almond oil (a carrier oil)
- To improve the quality of your sleep, I recommend 5 drops of lavender essential oil mixed into a tablespoon (15 ml) of almond oil
- For most essential oils, you can use up to 10 drops per tablespoon of carrier oil, but only use 5 drops per tablespoon of carrier oil when using essential oils that can irritate the skin such as peppermint. When in doubt, only use 5 drops per tablespoon.
